Summary - It ain't over until the Library Lady says

Hi LL

Here's what I think for what it's worth.
1.The most important thing I learned about Web 2. is how broad its scope
is. Even though I say I would like life to slow down and things be less complicated, the reality is this is impossible. So keep up with the ever changing technology, use what works for you and don't fight it. I am currently using some of the tools in my job at BPL.

2. The most challenging thing I found was getting away from the computer. I spent too much time reading blogs, RSS feeds, You tube videos. I find the computer and Web 2. addictive.

3.The benefits of Web 2. for libraries: connecting with other libraries and library staff throughout the world resulting in a non-stop learning experience and improved library service; raising the profile of BPL; keeping up with library customers and their needs and wants.

4.I like the self-directed learning model. Learning and practicing at the same time works well for me. Credit must go to BPL's Library Lady for the clear way she set the tasks out and provided direction and support.
And you can never go wrong adding humour. Thank you LL.

I think this model could be used for other staff development.

Faceless Book

Hi LL

Well I've signed up for a Facebook account (without by face) and I've joined the OBOB group. This may be the last time I actually use this website.
I have heard several negative things about facebook- eg. invasion of privacy. Although I wouldn't put anything too damning on the site I'm just not interested in this type of communication. I'm sure it's great if it's the sort of thing you like.

LibraryThing

http://www.librarything.com/catalog/leemingj

Dear Library Lady
Well LibraryThing is a winner. I have been keeping track of the books I've read over the last couple of years - it helps jog my memory. Now I can keep my personal reading list in a format that I would be happy to share.

I will definitely use Librarything when preparing booklists; book displays;
reviews; Beans and Books.

Librarything will be the most useful thing I've learned in Web 2.Huh?!

Is "Del.icio.us" as good as it sounds?

Dear Library Lady
I've spent a bit of time bookmarking pages using tagging and Del.icio.us and I'm not yet convinced that it's something I will use. I have been able to find some interesting sites that I have bookmarked, but it feels too time consuming and awkward. I think it very beneficial to be able to pick up favourites from any computer but at this point it's the only benefit I see.
Maybe practice will allow me to experience Del.icio.us to its full potential.
